The last step of booking on your site is Checkout. What a client can choose there depends on two things: the payment methods you turned on, and whether a deposit applies to the service.

Payment methods at checkout

Clients see every method that is on in Settings › Payments › Accepted Payment Methods, in your order, with your Default Payment Method preselected. Each method shows its display name and description.

  • Choosing the offline method means the client pays at the salon. The button reads Book Appointment.
  • Choosing an online method means the client pays now. The button reads Pay Now, and the client is sent to a checkout page after booking.

Payment types

When more than one type is possible, clients see a Payment Type choice.

TypeWhen it's offeredWhat happens
Pay LaterThe offline method is chosen and no deposit applies. No payment now. The client pays at the salon.
Pay Full AmountAn online method is chosen. The client pays the full invoice total online.
Pay Deposit OnlyAn online method is chosen and a deposit applies. The client pays the deposit online and the rest at the salon.

How deposits work at checkout

A deposit applies when the service, its location or your salon has a deposit policy. The most specific policy wins: service first, then location, then the salon-wide policy. See Require a deposit.

  • A Percentage deposit is that share of the invoice total, after any coupon and with tax.
  • A Fixed deposit is that amount, or the full total if the total is lower.
  • Free services never need a deposit.

When a deposit applies, the offline method is hidden for that booking. The client must pay online, either the deposit or the full amount. If you have no online method turned on, clients see No payment methods available. and can't book the service online.

Coupons

Under Have a coupon code? clients can enter a code and click Apply. The discount is applied to the price before the deposit is worked out. Only active coupons work. See Create a coupon.

What happens after checkout

Every booking creates a draft invoice for the appointment with the service at its price for that location and team member.

If the client pays later, the appointment gets your salon's default status, for example confirmed or awaiting confirmation. See Approve bookings before they're confirmed.

If the client pays online, the appointment starts as Awaiting Payment and the client is sent to the checkout page.

  • When the payment succeeds, the appointment moves to your default status. The payment shows as Completed in Finances › Payments.
  • If the total due is zero, for example because of a 100% coupon, the appointment gets your default status right away.

If the client doesn't pay

An Awaiting Payment appointment holds its time slot for 15 minutes from when it was booked. After that, the slot opens up again and other clients can book it. The appointment itself isn't canceled automatically. It stays Awaiting Payment until the client pays or you change it.

Check the Awaiting Payment appointments now and then. Cancel the ones that were abandoned so your calendar stays clean, or send the client a payment link.

Common questions

Not at booking. Without a deposit policy, the online choice is the full amount. You can record more payments on the invoice later.
