Recovery codes are one-time backup codes for your second sign-in step. Use one when you don't have your authenticator app or security key. Each code works once.

A recovery code replaces your second step only. You still need your password, a login code or a provider to sign in first.

Create your recovery codes

  1. 1

    Step 1 of 3

    Open Recovery Codes

Go to Account β€Ί Security. In the MFA card, find Recovery Codes and click Setup.

If you signed in more than 15 minutes ago, Softalon first asks you to confirm it's you.

  2. 2

    Step 2 of 3

    Save the codes

The Recovery Codes dialog lists your new codes. Copy them to a password manager, or print them and keep them somewhere safe.

The alert says the codes are not active until you confirm them.

  3. 3

    Step 3 of 3

    Confirm the codes

    Click Confirm Those Codes.

    You will see:

The Recovery Codes row shows Manage and Remove buttons.

If you close the dialog without clicking Confirm Those Codes, the codes don't work. Click Setup again to start over.

View or replace your codes

Go to Account β€Ί Security β€Ί MFA and click Manage next to Recovery Codes. The dialog shows your codes. A code you already used shows as N/A.

To get a fresh set, click Regenerate Codes, save the new codes, and click Confirm Those Codes. Do this when you've used most of them or think someone saw them.

To turn recovery codes off, click Remove.

Sign in with a recovery code

  1. 1

    Step 1 of 2

    Get to the second step

Sign in as usual. On the Verify Your Identity screen, click Use Recovery Code next to Lost access to your MFA device?

  2. 2

    Step 2 of 2

    Enter a code

Type one unused code in Recovery Code and click Continue.

    You will see:

The Softalon app opens. That code can't be used again.

To switch back, click Use MFA Device next to Have access to your MFA device?

After you sign in with a recovery code because you lost your phone or key, set up a new authenticator or key, remove the old one, and regenerate your codes.
