In many countries, a text message can show a name instead of a phone number as the sender. This name is called a sender ID. Without your own sender ID, your salon's texts use the default Softalon sender. With one, clients see your business name, for example HairHaven.

Before you start

  • Your salon is on the Ultimate plan.
  • You have the Super Administrator or Owner role.
  • Your clients are in countries that support sender IDs. Check the SMS Country Guide.

Sender ID rules

  • 3 to 11 characters.
  • Letters A to Z and numbers 0 to 9 only. No spaces or special characters.
  • It should clearly represent your business or brand.

Approval

Every new sender ID is reviewed by the Softalon team before it's used. While it's waiting, your texts keep using the default sender.

StatusWhat it means
Not ConfiguredYou haven't set a sender ID.
Pending ApprovalYour sender ID is waiting for review, or it wasn't approved. If the team left a note, it appears under Feedback.
ConfiguredYour sender ID is approved and used for your salon's texts.

If your sender ID wasn't approved, read the Feedback, click Update, fix the sender ID and save. It goes back for review.

Changing an approved sender ID sends it back for review. Until the new one is approved, your texts use the default sender.

When your sender ID isn't shown

Your sender ID is only used where carriers support it. Some countries need a registered sender ID, and some don't support text sender IDs at all and need a phone number instead. In the United States and Canada, for example, texts are sent from a phone number. If a carrier doesn't support custom sender IDs, a fallback sender is used so the message still arrives. See Check if SMS works in your country.

Your sender ID also stops being used if your salon leaves the Ultimate plan.

Remove your sender ID

Open the menu next to Update and choose Delete. Your texts go back to the default sender.

The Validate option in the same menu checks that the sender ID follows the rules above. It doesn't approve it.

Common questions

No. Texts are charged per segment at the same rate with or without a sender ID.
